THE “CHAMPION MINDSET”: NEVER BECOME COMPLACENT, WORK HARDER!

When you experience SUCCESS it is very easy to become complacent and satisfied! This is the most critical moment because you can either build long term SUCCESS or you begin to regress. Regroup, Refocus, Keep Grinding & Stay Hungry!

STAY HUNGRY

After a lot of consistent hard work, while at the University of Arkansas, we finally started seeing results after year two.  Coming off of a 5-7 season and finally making it to a bowl game year two, we were at a crucial crossroads. Still dealing with a relatively young team we were still developing the leadership within the team.

Keys To Developing Success On The Field, Through Your Training:

1. RE-GROUP

KNILE DAVIS AGILITY

Every year in collegiate sports you never have the same exact team. You lose kids to graduation and coaches take new jobs every year! With that being said you lose a lot of guys and coaches that may have had major impacts on your team the previous year. It was very important for us to develop our new identity. The way that we decided to do this is, to put your team through some controlled adversity so that we can see the areas within the team that we need to continue to develop.

2. RE-FOCUS

REFOCUS

It is crucial to immediately to put past success in the past! Nothing you accomplished yesterday is relevant to what we do tomorrow. This is not always true but in sports it is, no one cares who won the championship last year! It is all about the NOW! We acknowledged the success, then we put it behind us and then we set new goals with each athlete for the off season.

3. KEEP GRINDING

The previous season, the team set a standard for their work ethic. Just because you think you were working hard, does not mean that you can't crank it up to another level! One of the biggest philosophies that helped accelerate a new work ethic is "IRON SHARPENS IRON" The coaches can apply PRESSURE all they want, but when the PRESSURE comes from within the team it has a huge effect! As coaches we turned almost everything into competition. More importantly we acknowledged the winners and losers of the competition! What eventually happened was, the athletes would compete so hard versus each other that they actually improved everyday as a whole!

Everyone defines SUCCESS differently! The GREATS really do not use the term, because in order to be GREAT you have to be your biggest critic and learn to never be satisfied! As a coach it is our job to develop this attitude within the TEAM!
